Were out of the Water!

Posted on Thursday 23 October 2008

Thanks to the efforts of our Dedicated volunteers the old Girl is out of the water and in the Barn for cosmetic maintenance over the winter.

As we dip into another winter, The folks over at MLM couldn’t be more thrilled at our excellent Season. We were so busy this year we had to turn customers away as we cannot hold more than 101 persons (including crew) by law. So a HUGE THANKYOU! goes out to our marketing team led by non-other than Jim Zimmerman!

Of course, as we are in dry dock we will be scheduling for our annual hull inspection, boiler test, fire extinguisher checks, and all those numerous safety things we have to do as a ship carrying passengers for hire. Along with that we hope this year that the hull will need minimal work as we did a complete overhaul of the stern the past 2years I think the carpenter crew needs a break from the big stuff. Some things we are looking at to work on in the hull would be…

  • Rub rail (the dock at excelsior ate up the brand new rub-rail a bit [totally cosmetic here])
  • A few hull boards that have been on our long term to-do list for a few years (I think its time)
  • Anything that comes up in our inspection [hopefully nothing]

Also we will for sure be at the Minneapolis Boat Show, as always we will be with the Antique boat club.  Come see us there!

OK back to the shop…

We will be painting the upper deck this year and the safety rails… to keep her a pristine piece of art.

Our board of directors have already begun the tedious task of making our schedule for the 2009 season. This will be one of the most crucial schedules we have ever put together - because of Big Island Park. Yes, we will be servicing Big Island this coming season. The scheduling is difficult because we are still planning on running all of our runs from last year. So what will happen as far as today’s thinking is we will be making a super short stop at the island during the 1st 2 afternoon runs tacking on 10 min. to each run will allow those who want to picnic about 2 hours to enjoy the island. They will then be picked up on the next run for return to Excelsior port. As far as the board goes we will only service Big Island from Excelsior NOT Wayzata (except for Charters of course!).

So as you can see we have some big issues coming up over the winter and if anyone would have suggestions for all of us at MLM fell free to blog it here. We check the Blog a whole lot more than we do in the Summer.

For everyone at MLM and my-self.

Thank-you for your interest in the Steamboat Minnehaha!
